How to Make Your Hospital Stay Briefer

In this article today I would like to talk about several tips, tricks, and techniques that just about anybody can use to make sure that their hospital stay is as brief as possible.

Nobody likes to be stuck in a hospital any longer than they absolutely have to be. For one thing, it’s incredibly expensive to be there even if you have health insurance. For another thing, studies have shown that hospitals are terrible places to pick up other illnesses. And I won’t even mention the fact that the longer you stick around in a hospital, the greater the chances are that someone will make some sort of medical mistake that will have a disastrous outcome for you.

So how can you make sure that you spend as little time as possible at the hospital? That’s what I’m going to talk about today.

The first thing you should do is ask the nurse whether or not any other patients on your floor have the same last name or even a similar last name as you. This may sound silly but mistakes happen when similarly named patients are grouped together. Charts get mixed up, prescriptions get mixed up, and procedures can get mixed up. All of this leads to heartache, hassle, and more time wasted. Ask to be moved if you find yourself near a patient with a similar name.

Next, you should try to get out of sharing a room with somebody who has a persistent cough or other flu like symptoms. The fact is, most infections are spread through the air. Because of this, your room should be as germ-free as is humanly possible so that you don’t get sick and stuck in the hospital longer than necessary.

Next, you should always know who is qualified to help you. Hospitals are very busy places with people coming and going all the time. But the fact remains that the woman in the white uniform may not even be a nurse, and that guy with a stethoscope may not really be a doctor. Whenever somebody interacts with you, ask who they are and what their position is.

Finally you should stay put as much is possible. People fall in hospitals. It seems silly, and it even seems a little stupid but people who’ve never fallen in their life often fall in hospitals because they fail to realize that they are sick and in an unfamiliar environment. It doesn’t take much to slip and fall and seriously hurt yourself, which will definitely add to the amount of time you’re stuck in a hospital. Stay in bed as much as you can.

So there you have several very simple tips and tricks that anybody can use to make sure they spend as little time in the hospital as possible. Remember, you want to get your treatment and get the heck out of there and hopefully these tips will make sure that happens.
